I have orders some protein and vitamin supplements. These items along with my new exercise plan should show some nice results. My end goal is to return to Phoenix and score excellent on all my fitness tests. I’m staying away from any additives that I will have to take without end.
While I’m at the gym I’m listening to a great scifi audio book called The Long Earth
I have always liked Stephen Baxter‘s books, they are always made of the hardest of science fiction, with tales intrinsically wrapped with physics and philosophy.
I received two of the best presents of the season this last week, and I invoked the unspoken deployment rule. I get to open anything that comes here without waiting for Christmas. 🙂
My parents sent me a Celestron Telescope, model 127 EQ. I have already used it to look at the moon and the moons orbiting Jupiter. Yesterday I also got another surprise, a NASA cycling jersey from ThinkGeek. I love it, and I’m going to put it to good use at the gym.
I also hear that a few of my friends at ASU and in ASU SEDS are sending care packages. I look forward to these gifts of “meat and electronics”. Thank you all!
Yesterday’s conflict resolved itself this morning and we are now thick as thieves again. We really do have similar interests and there is a lot I can learn from his experience. We are going to be working on programming a Raspberry Pi micro computer to catalog input from a GPS device for mapping of a field researcher’s movements.
I’ve taken over a repsonsibillity, one I don’t feel the need to detail, but the gentleman who left me with it, also left me with quite a mess! Having fun getting all the paperwork and spreadsheets standardized and organized. I don’t claim to know the motivations behind the previous organization, but I am now clearing the cob webs out and working towards higher efficiency.
I had a little experiment in conflict resolution, today. It didn’t go perfect, in fact, I think it went only slightly better then I expected. Which is saying a lot about my expectations, as the conversation ended with my counterpart walking away from me, abruptly, but without surprise. I really want us to get along, but it seems that he takes offense at everything I do, from ‘walking ahead of him in the hall’ to putting my cover on too early before leaving the building. I worry about him, and wish him peace.
I decided to put it out of my mind for the afternoon. A bit of historical reading, followed by more recording of the clips similar to the one linked below. Then it was off to the gym where I am stable running for 14 min strait on the Hill setting going from a flat to a 4.5 degree incline randomly, today upping my speed to a start of 5.2 mph and ending around six. The goal is 6.5 mph sustained for 14 min with peaks of seven mph, eventually moving to a stable incline of two degrees. I want to move this outside after this and get my run times in the excellent range for my fitness tests. I should start upping my push-ups and sit ups too, with a goal of 100 of each in two min respectively. All to make that officer’s board in two years and all this running has been to an audio book on modern Buddhist practices in daily life.
After all this its an odd mixture of 1947 blues and AC/DC, so…
“Royal Garden Blues‘ is the theme tonight people. Lets put those quarters in the jukebox and get dancing 🙂
First, congrats to Kepler for completing it’s primary mission and good luck on your extended mission!
I got all my baking goods in the mail from my parents to do some combat baking. I will have access to the General’s kitchen to bake two red velvet cakes this thanksgiving. I love to cook and its a good stress reliever, as my roommates found out when I came back from a month-long military exercise. For three days, I was oblivious that I have not left the kitchen or stopped cooking and baking. So maybe it’s a double edged sword.
Today was filled with scrubbing Excel databases, fixing scanners and troubleshooting e-mail problems. I also picked up these patches from a local shop.
I received a package from April today containing two awesome books, The Pocket Ref. and the book of secrets from ThinkGeek. I have had a lot of trouble putting them down! Check them out. She also sent me a sweet Occupy Mars shirt from SpaceX’s new online store, as well as some hygienic products, Thank You!
I haven’t been driving in the capital recently, but now with 5 drives under my belt, I am only 1 qualification drive away from a Combat driving or Aggressive driving licence, something like that. I also have winter versions of those courses soon. Fun! I love learning new skills.
I’m all settled in here at Camp Phoenix, Afghanistan. I have a little 10′ cubed room, I take my laundry bags to a local cleaner, and I share a bathroom down the hall. I work computer trouble tickets here for CIAJTF 435, and share this job with about 7 others, combined Navy, Army, Air Force. I’m learning about a lot of different systems used here in theater, and they are giving me a lot of ideas, ideas I can take back to Arizona and use at the university.
For example, here is a diagram of the project I’m co-leading with April Davis. Ill share more on that later.
For lack of a better place to upload these:
